PATTERN NOTES: This shawl is worked in one piece, f lat, from end to end. Thit is a checklist pattern, each row is written out for easier tracking – however, this makes the pattern significantly longer – check to see the pages you want to print before starting.
I highly recommend matching the weight of your yarn to the pattern yarn weight that is recommended. (For example: this pattern recommends worsted weight yarn: grams = 210 yards (192 m) per 100 grams (3.53 oz). Using a skein with significantly fewer or more yards will result in a different product and may cause you to run out of yarn.)
SIZE: One Size
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 19” deep x 80” across top edge (48.5 x 203 cm)
YARN: Malabrigo Rios (100% Superwash Merino wool/210 yds/110g) 6 skeins
NEEDLE: US Size 7 (4.5mm) 24-inch (60 cm) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge. Two US Size 7 (4.5 mm) doubled pointed needles GAUGE: 20 sts and 24 rows = 4”/10cm (5 sts and 6 rows = 1”/2.5 cm) in Stockinette Stitch Note: Be sure to achieve washed and blocked gauge. Not achieving the correct gauge may result in needing more or less yardage.
NOTIONS: Stitch markers, tapestry needle. SAMPLE: Sample was knit in 6 skeins of Malabrigo Rios in colorways MC Scorpio = 62 g; CC1 Frank Ochre = 62 g; CC2 Glazed Carrot= 37 g; CC3 Magenta = 47 g; CC4 Cian = 38 g; and CC5 Solis = 40 g; weighing 259 grams and using 544 yards.
I love color and especially those in rainbow order, no matter the shade. So a jewel toned rainbow seemed like a vision when I saw a photo online of a knitter at a local yarn shop with a lovely shawl in those tones. I contacted the shop but didn’t get a pattern match so I decided to just write a new shawl pattern with the inspired colors. I love how this turned out in the Malabrigo Rios as the depth of color is incredible and so saturated but any colors would work. And it would be lovely in a gradient of the same color, say all purples or blues. If you have never worked a Vikkel braid, it’s not difficult and sort of similar to a KFB but done behind your work.
