Everyone needs a statement piece. This skirt works up in a variety of colors or just two of your choice. I had this idea jotted down for a number of years, but it finally came to fruition for my Rhinebeck trip with friends in 2019 when I knit this up for my friend, Amber, Yarnhoarder. We wore our matching projects and had a blast showing the other knitters our love of the craft. An elastic waistband allows for comfort as well as adjustability for many sizes. And the skirt can be made shorter or longer by changing the plain stockinette rows between the words or leaving off a word completely.

NEEDLE: US size 6 (4.0 mm) 24-inch (60 cm) and 32-inch (81 cm) circular needles
GAUGE: 22 sts and 28 rnds = 4”/10 cm (5.5 sts and 7 rnds = 1”/2.25 cm) in Stockinette Stitch colorwork
NOTIONS: Stitch marker, tapestry needle, 26-57” of 1” elastic band (approx 1-2” less than your waist measurement.)
SAMPLES The lighter sample was knit in Jill Draper Makes Stuff Mohonk (100% Lamb’s wool; 370 yds/338m; 4 oz/113 g per skein) using 9 colors: Mourning
Dove, Powder Puff, Trillium, Bone, Purple Hairstreak, Peony, Chintz Rose, Frost, and Mallow. A total of 1,051 yds/321g were used overall. The darker sample was knit in Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport Weight (100% wool; 184 yds/168m; 1.75oz/50g per skein) using 8 colors: 147S True Blue Navy, 205S Regal Purple, N60S Purple Splendor, 116S Blue Boy, 153SS Speckled Robin Egg, N65S Sapphire, and N59S Butterfly Blue. A total of 1,071 yds/291g were used overall.
PATTERN NOTES
The skirt is worked from the top down, with all the colorwork words charted and knit upside down. The colorwork may be done in as many or as few
colors as the knitter wishes. For best readability, the stripes should be worked on alternate rounds
