When I first wrote this felted backpack pattern,my daughter was 6 years old and wanted to pickher own colors and style. This was at the height of the felting and fun fur craze, so a purple and pinkbackpack was designed and worn to everyday offirst grade.Now some 20 years later, this pattern still hold sup and is an ideal felting project for kids andadults. Fun to make, easy to modify, customizablefor favorite colors, it will provide a great vehicle or transporting small knitting project bags,stuffed animals, books, snacks and an assortmentof odds and ends.Embellish it! I love using buttons to embellish knit-ted items. There are many novelty buttons avail-able so you can really personalize your backpack.

PRINTING NOTE:This is a checklist pattern; it is notnecessary to print the entire pattern if you prefer not touse the checkboxes for each section.

PATTERN NOTES: Yarn is held double throughout. The base of the bag is worked as a complete rectangle andbound off, then picked up around its entirety to insure asymmetrical felted seaming

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS AFTER FELTING:

Small/Medium:10”/25.5 cm wide X 6”/15 cm deep X15.5”/39.5 cm high

Medium/Large:14”/35.5 cm wide X 10”/25.5 cmdeep X 17”/43 cm high

YARN:1400 (2400) yards of 100% wool held double,(nota superwash).

SAMPLES:Knit with Cascade 220 held doubleNEEDLE:Size 13 (9 mm) 24-inch circular needle & two size 13 (9 mm) DPNs for handles

GAUGE:Loose! Before felting: 12 sts and 16 rounds =4” /10 cm in St st working double stranded
